The Difference Between US and European Ganirelix
Ganirelix (sold under the brand Orgalutran) on IVFPharmacy is made by Organon Pharmaceuticals. It is a brand medication, not generic. The drug composition is exactly the same as Ganirelix in the US but the packaging may vary slightly. Here's how:
US packaging:
This medication is sold under the brand Antagon in the US and is sold as a 0.25mg pre-filled syringe.
European packaging:
This medication is called Orgalutran in Europe. The name is different but it is manufactured by the same company as in the US.

  • Ganirelix can be substituted with Cetrotide (if allowed on your RX). Cetrotide is available with expedited shipping.
  • Ganirelix / Orgalutran / Antagon is commonly ordered with: Menopur, Crinone, Endometrin
Ganirelix Uses and Side Effects
Ganirelix Uses & Indications:
Ganirelix (Orgalutran) is used as an adjunct therapy for some fertility problems in women. It is normally used alongside the hormone treatments for FSH and hCG as part of an IVF drugs program. The active ingredient Ganirelix works by blocking the release of the luteinizing hormone so ovulation is delayed and the chance of producing fertile eggs is increased.
Ganirelix Side Effects:
Common Ganirelix side effects include: Redness/pain at the injection site, headache, mild nausea/stomach pain, and tiredness may occur.
Serious Ganirelix side effects that require urgent medical attention include: Unusual vaginal bleeding and Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome (OHSS) can cause fluid build up in the stomach, chest, and heart area. Symptoms of OHSS include severe pain/swelling in the pelvic region, severe nausea/vomiting, sudden/rapid weight gain, or change in the amount of urine. If you develop a rash, itching/swelling (especially of the face/tongue/throat), severe dizziness or have trouble breathing it might be caused by a severe allergic reaction, seek urgent medical attention.
